For ultimate light weight soloists and racing competitions the Lofoten 1 tent sets a new standard.
Released 1st March 2017, the new Nordisk Lofoten 1 Tent might be the world’s lightest. Nordisk have sent the Lofoten to the Guinness team to verify if the Lofoten is the lightest tent. We’ll have to wait for the result, but what we do know is the Lofoten weighs in at a mere 490 grams.
Nordisk have created their own new 7 denier fabric which is triple layer silicon treated for a 1.6 meter hydrostatic head. This, in combination with a handful of innovative design features brings the weight of the Lofoten down below the half kilo mark, but the added advantage of such a thin material is the pack size is drastically reduced. If you are keen to shed grams then a reduced pack size means you can move toward a smaller rucksack or racepack and save even more precious grams.
One innovative feature of the Lofoten is the Fly sheet and pole are the same for both the one person and two person tents. If you choose the one person option you gain a useful vestibule for pack, but if you choose the two person option then the porch area is sacrificed to accommodate the larger inner, but you still have enough vestibule for two pairs of boots or running shoes.
Nordisk also make the one person or two person inner available separately as an aftermarket extra.
That means if you have bought the one person tent, but then find yourself entered in a two person completion, you can just get an additional inner instead of a whole new tent. Visa versa, if you have bought the two person version and you decide you want to shave off a few grams and gain some porch space then you can do that too.
In addition, if you have the two person version but you are using it solo, the inner floor can be retracted to increase the vestibule area.
The Lofoten is supplied with two accessory packs. The ‘Race’ accessory pack contains spares and titanium needle pegs weighing just one gram each, and the ‘Treck’ accessory pack has the heavier but more practical aluminium pegs and an additional pole for holding the door flap open to form a canopy.

Editor’s Comments:
The Lofoten is going to change how some people organize their kit and open up new opportunities to redesign their pack for the ultimate lightweight system.
Most light weight one person tents weigh between one and two kilos whereas the Lofoten 1 weighs less than half a kilo, which is less than most bivi bags! Of course there is a price to pay for shedding all that weight. Be sure to check out the dimensions so you are sure the Lofoten is suitable for you. Its 0.7 metre at peak head height but the average height along the main part is closers to 0.5m. That’s just enough so that you don’t feel claustrophobic and its just enough so that you can move around and wriggle into a change of clothes, but thats about it. The philosophy here is ‘get in, get your head down and get a good night’s sleep’, nothing more.
For ultimate light weight soloists and racing competitions the Lofoten sets a new standard.
