Meaty, rich complicated flavours with herbs and spice, I don’t need to be on a mountain to enjoy this packet meal.
The Title Trek’N Eat ‘Spicy Beef Casserole with Noodles’ is a bit misleading. First of all if you say ‘Spicy’ in the UK, it tends to mean ‘curry hot’. This dish isn’t. I wouldn’t even call it mildly spiced; it just has a little paprika which works very well with beef (for example Beef Strogganoff).
Secondly there must have been something lost in translation because there are no noodles in it. It has Macaroni pasta tubes instead. Not that that makes any difference.
The Beef hydrates really well and has a good texture in only five minutes. That’s handy when it is really cold out because if a meal has to steep too long, it can be lukewarm by the time its ready.
It also has little bits of red peppers which, when you get a bit, alters the flavour for a moment making the meal more interesting. The blend of herbs and spice is complicated and gives a rich flavour.
Score: 9.5/10
Summary: Its difficult to imagine a better packet food of this type, but just in case one comes along I’ll reserve the maximum score.
